I'm a pretty big Erwin McManus fan. Maybe we are kindred spirits or something, but I always seem to love what he has to say. Here are some quotes from the Outreach Interview:
Whenever somebody says, "I want to go 'deeper' in the Word," what they really mean is that they want to become more academic. Why isn't going deeper hearing the dreams of God? Why isn't it having a more vivid imagination, being able to imagine a future that has yet to be created?
I think the role of pastors at this time in history is to be a currator of human talent. They need to learn how to cultivate, how to identify, how to nurture, how to develop and unleash the God-given potential in every person.
...a lot of people have a dream, but sometimes its not the dream that matches their life. As the Church, we've got to help people find the dream that matches their life, or nothing else we tell them is going to be that helpful.
If we don't go to the dark questions, then we are irrelevant. I say, tell the truth and be honest. The problem is that the Church doesn't tell the truth. There are multiple ways of lying; the more spiritual you become the more agile you become in being dishonest.
