Yesterday, I had the chance to go with David Smith down to New Braunfels to hear Dr. Ed Stetzer - or as I like to call him, "Big Daddy E." He spoke from the research of a couple of his books - but his passion was clearly evident when he was working through his recent stuff on being missional. My DMin work was along missional lines, so it was nice that his definitions and my definitions were lining up ...it's always nice to be reminded one is not a heretic :) Here are some quotes from Big Daddy E:
God is a sending God. Jesus said, "As the father has sent me, so send I you." Jesus was on mission and so are we!
The Church hasn't acted "sent" in a very long time.
Its much easier to be mission-minded than it is to be missional. Its far easier to send money and missionaries around the world than it is to reach into our own communities with the Gospel.
We don't have to search for a mission, we just have to join Jesus in his.
You can tell when you are ready for change when you hurt for the right things.
The Bible, God, the Gospel - all relevant ...us? Not so much.
We as pastor's often fall in love with someone else's community, and we miss what it takes to actually reach ours with the gospel.
