Over the weekend, I rented Black Snake Moan. Basically, I was out of options at the store...lol I'd also seen a preview, and I love Samuel L. Jackson, so I figured, why not. I was sooo surprised by this movie! (and in a good way)
I think most of us want happy endings in life. However, the truth is that things
are never as easy or as simple as we want them to be. Changed lives are usually messy and when we really see God's power in
redemption, it often looks like nothing we'd ever expect or believe.
Most of us give up too quick. Very few of us ever actually get
involved. Like the Levite and the Priest we walk right by... But what if the Good Samaritan story was told in our culture's language? ...well it might look a lot like Black Snake Moan!
Here's the IMDB plot outline:
A God-fearing bluesman (Jackson) takes to a wild young woman (Ricci) who, as a victim of childhood sexual abuse, looks everywhere for love, never quite finding it.
Jackson's character is amazing. He's struggling with all kinds of issues and yet somehow does the right thing. Ricci is every guy's worst nightmare - and yet, through the film she finds faith, hope, and love. There is also a great "preacher" role... Not the typical Southern Black preacher, but a real guy living a missional lifestyle! Rent it sometime - just understand...it's messy!
