Around our house it has pretty much been Olympics 24/7. I think I have a gift for being able to watch sports - any sport - for hours at a time :) But after watching for several days, I have come to some conclusions...
Just because its in the Olympics doesn't mean its a sport. Give me a break - Trampoline? gymnastics Dance? Badminton? Men's field Hockey? I rest my case...
By far the coolest thing about the Olympics is when you see an athlete tear up during their national anthem. They have waited their whole lives and in that one moment it all comes together.
There are a bunch of really fit people in Beijing. Even if its some goofy sport, the athletes are still really, really fit! I've never been to an Olympics in person, but I think actually attending would just make me feel fat all the time...
Why can't NBC figure out a way to do each sport "on demand." There are a bunch of races and sports that we never get to see... In 2008 you ought to be able to DVR all the cycling events for instance without having to wait, and hope, and just get lucky to catch that event.
Finally.... I think my greatest sentiment has been "Wow. I will never be able to do that, but it is very cool to watch..." Bolt running 100 meters, Phelps swimming, any of the Table Tennis men or women - I can't ever even comprehend being able to do that - but its still very enjoyable to watch!
