Assimilation and Star Trek

Borg1I've been thinking A LOT about assimilation lately. How do we help people connect ...to Phoenix ...to Crestview ...and ultimately to Christ and his followers. Every time I say the word "assimilation" though, I think of the Borg. They were the masters of assimilation!! "Resistance Is Futile" With the Borg there was no option. Proximity to them meant you were being overtaken. You could fight, but just try...

The easy answer, of course, to assimilation is small groups or home groups - but when? Bob Logan says don't make any groups until your first convert. Searcy says wait 6 months before starting groups... Right now, at Phoenix, we have no "official" groups. We worship on Sundays and that's about it. It leaves me feeling like I am trying to hold onto water in my hand. Is it time for more? How can we honestly hope to keep people, and develop deeper relationships without smaller groups? ...some questions have no easy answers...
