A little conference controversy

Before the final plenary session of the NNCC Exponential conference a video was shown... It was from Mark Driscoll. The way they billed it, I actually thought we were getting a live interview (that would have been very cool). Instead, we got a edgy video about the war that is Church planting. It was a little intense for me, but my buddy David loved it! Mark's blog posts the video here. When it finished, up walked Bill Hybels. Bill slammed the video. I honestly doubt he meant to, but that's the way his comment came across. If I dare to give my opinion, I think he was right... Driscoll's video is very manly, and seems to discount women - but the comment never should have been made. Folks have been blogging about this for a couple of days. The latest is Driscoll himself who explains why the video was even produced. He also says the conference leadership "banned" the video and didn't pass it out. If that's the case, how come I ended up with three handed to me as I left? Maybe I am just special =)

...Long story short: two thoughts.

  1. Satan will use any scrap he can find to divide people and hurt the message and/or messenger. Both of these men are church planting heroes. They are very different, but both Godly men and both care deeply about reaching the lost. The enemy can use such petty things to set a trap...
  2. Watch what you say. Little unprepared comments can get even the best communicators (and the nicest of guys) in big trouble! (Insert personal experience here.)
