Sleep is highly overrated. That's what I finally decided at 3:30am this morning. I got some sleep, but I woke up with my brain stuck in overdrive and it wouldn't shut down - so I just gave up...
The guys and I are driving up to Dallas today. We are attending the half day "Launch Conference" with Nelson Searcy at Lakepointe. I am hoping we come back with some great ideas and some combustible passion... A plan wouldn't hurt either!
If you are a church planter in the Austin area, email me sometime. The GreenHouse Network, the Austin Baptist Association and myself (I don't have a cool name yet) are going to host a Church Planter Gathering soon... More details to follow.
I said "goodbye" via cell phone on speaker phone to my Grandmother last night. The doctors are saying she has maybe 24 hours. I really wish I could have just kissed her on the forehead and said I love you...
When I saw the title to your post I thought it said - Launching a new church without any SHEEP. Sometimes our eyes just don't focus on the letters (perhaps from lack of SLEEP). Anyway, I was immediately intrigued by the idea that you were actually going to try to start a new church without any previously "churched" Christians (aka SHEEP). What a concept! That's what Paul did in the book of Acts on his church planting journeys. He didn't launch his church with a core group of believers - he just started proclaiming the Gospel message and gathered those who believed into community.
Well, I don't know what your proces for starting churches is - and I don't know why I even commented. I think I was just really impressed with your idea of starting a new church without any SHEEP - which of course is not what you were even talking about. Maybe I need some sleep, too.
Blessings,
